Stewart was engaged by the County to prepare an update to their existing Unified Development Ordinance. The first phase of the project included an assessment of the County’s existing ordinances, review procedures, and applications as well as public comment and feedback.
The County’s UDO, adopted in 1992, was applicable to land development in the unincorporated areas of Guilford County. There have been more than 30 text amendments to the UDO over the years to align with changes in state laws, changing economy and planning practices, and the needs of an ever-changing community. This project represented the first comprehensive update to a county undergoing significant growth and change.
