Stewart was retained to assist with the design and construction of a 2,000+ car parking lot, related structures, shuttle parking, drop-off /pickup area, and storm water management facilities on 24.5 acres near Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. Permitting was through the City of Charlotte for construction document approval.

Stewart Civil developed a schematic site plan that addressed the proposed building location, driveway and parking area improvements, in addition to a preliminary storm water management evaluation to determine the location and necessary storm water management components. The team completed construction documents and provided building permit assistance.

Stewart also provided a geotechnical exploration where subgrade soils were tested in our laboratory and recommendations were provided to the project owner regarding fill settlement and other subsurface conditions. During construction, Stewart continued to provide Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspection services. Services included earthwork testing and observation, foundation evaluations, modular retaining wall observations, concrete testing and observation, asphalt testing, and structural steel observations.

Stewart’s Geomatics team was brought on board to complete a topographic survey of a portion of the property, approximately four acres in size. The team also field surveyed existing conditions including existing improvements and surface features, buildings, sidewalks, concrete pads curb/gutter, paving, pavement markings in parking lots and streets, street signage, walls, fences, ditches and visible improvements within the project area.
