Located in the hospitality district of NC State University’s Centennial Campus adjacent to the Alumni Center and overlooking Lake Raleigh, this 165-key hotel includes 10,000 square feet of convention space, a bar and restaurant area, fitness center, and swimming pool. An outdoor terrace is located adjacent to the conference area and allows for special events or conference attendees to spill out onto the patio. The hotel site is located in close proximity to the future Town Center and there are plans for a bridge or walkway to connect the hotel to the future mixed-use development. The landscape plan utilizes native and adapted plants in a manner to mimic the existing vegetation being preserved along the edges of the site.
Drawing upon Stewart’s geotechnical experience on this portion of Centennial Campus, we knew that rock was shallow and would impact both design and construction. During the geotechnical exploration, Stewart performed borings throughout the site on a grid pattern to aid in quantifying rock for the developer. This quantification allowed development of reasonable rock removal and other grading quantities, and minimized potential costly change orders.
