Revolution Regional Sports and Learning Academy

The Revolution Regional Sports and Learning Academy is located on-site with Revolution Golf Course. This project involved the expansion of the existing nine-hole golf course to add First Tee (youth golf program), Charlotte Flight (track and field), Charlotte Boxing Academy, and PAL. Located adjacent to Irwin Creek Greenway, the state-of-the-art facility provides athletic and educational services to the local community, nurturing a sustainable social connection through sensitivity to culture, history, wellness, prosperity, and diversity. The center successfully exhibits a holistic approach to sustainability by adhering to three main tenants at every level and scale. Socially and economically the building design creates connectivity that is sustained through community interaction and a sense of place while environmentally it maintains focus on regional design by responsibly managing the site’s natural resources. Mecklenburg County’s first certified LEED Silver project, the academy enhances its surroundings and betters the lives of users. The structural system of the facility is steel framing bearing on steel columns or masonry walls. Heavy timber wood trusses and steel joists support the roof over the sports training area. A large concrete retaining wall mitigates grade changes across the site.
