The project consists of a 111,300-square-foot, 120-bed State Veterans Home facility on 14.5 acres located in Kernersville, NC. The facility offers private rooms, nursing, various therapy treatments, wound care and pain management areas, activity rooms, conference rooms, a private chapel, laundry rooms, a full-service kitchen, and many other amenities. The project is one story separated into five buildings by CMU firewalls and associated expansion joints. The buildings are supported by shallow foundations and a concrete slab-on-grade. The structural system of the buildings is load-bearing, cold-formed metal framing and structural steel framing with metal trusses.
Stewart provided construction materials testing and special inspection services on this project. Our scope of work included testing and inspections of soils, shallow foundations, reinforced cast-in-place concrete, structural masonry, cold-formed metal framing, structural steel, smoke control systems, and asphalt/concrete pavements.
