The Duke University Eye Center works with visually impaired patients. Designers worked with our landscape architects to carefully ensure that the site design details provided a calming experience for patients. Specific site details included sensory planting, handrails incorporated with braille, and various textured paving surfaces.
The center was designated LEED Silver®. Our contributions to sustainable design contributed 20 percent of the required LEED credits. Sustainable design strategies included permeable paving, drought-tolerant planting, and stormwater filtration devices to help reduce impacts on the natural environment. The project consists of a six-story, 165,000-square-foot concrete framed structure.
