Like most colleges and universities, parking at Duke University and Health System isn’t always easy. To alleviate this, Duke created a parking system to benefit the entire Duke community of students, faculty, staff, visitors and patients. This initiative included several parking garages. To-date, Stewart has performed services on five Duke parking garages.
Parking Garage IV is an award-winning, five-level parking garage. Stewart’s civil engineering scope included road design, grading, utilities, erosion control, and storm sewer design. The garage also included innovative designs to avoid stream buffer intrusion and received an Honorable Mention in 2004 from the International Parking Deck Institute.
Parking Garage V is a five-level, 1,787-space parking garage constructed over an existing surface lot. This project includes civil engineering services associated with grading, site layout, utility connections, stormwater management, and erosion control, along with permitting services. The design also included innovative stormwater management techniques due to an adjacent stream.
Parking Garage VI will be five-levels with 750 spaces. Stewart’s services included grading, site layout, utility connections, stormwater management, and erosion control, along with permitting services.
Parking Garage VIII included a 1,600 – 2,000 car garage located near the Duke University Medical Center. Stewart provided engineering design and permitting services for the improvements of the Elba / Trent intersection, a “new street” to the garage, site planning, stormwater, and utilities for the garage.
Parking Garage IX consists of a seven-level 2,000-space parking garage constructed over an exisiting surface lot. Stewart’s scope includes grading, site layout, utility connections, stormwater management and erosion control, along with permitting though the City of Durham. The design also includes innovative stormwater design and erosion control for LEED® certification. Stewart also provided surveying.
