Stewart Furthers Commitment to the Advancement of Landscape Architecture at ASLA Conference and Expo

Stewart is helping to drive advancements in landscape architecture and sustainable design with its presence at the ASLA Conference and Expo. Held Oct. 19 – 22 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, this annual conference is hosted by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and is the largest gathering of landscape architecture professionals and students in the world.

Seven of Stewart’s landscape architects are attending and participating in sessions throughout the conference, including:

  • Courtney Landoll, Planning & Design project manager at Stewart, is moderating a panel session on “A Framework for Equity: From Process to Product,” exploring a method for defining equity on a project-by-project basis and discussing tools to engage and inspire the community. Emily Blackwell, project manager at Stewart, is serving as session host. The panel session will take place on Oct. 19 from 3:30 – 5 p.m. in room 119.
  • Blackwell is also serving as session host for the panel, ”Time’s Up: Challenges and Rewards for Women Entrepreneurs in Landscape Architecture,” discussing female leadership and entrepreneurship, and exploring causes and possible solutions to landscape architecture’s lacking parity and integration with women and minorities. The session will take place on Oct. 20 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in room 119.
  • Stewart’s President and Director of Design George Stanziale, will be inducted to the ASLA Council of Fellows. Stanziale received his nomination in the Leadership and Management category from the ASLA North Carolina chapter for his transformational and pioneering mindset and unwavering focus on the power of landscape architecture on the community. He serves as chair of the North Carolina State University College of Design Board and is special advisor to the Dean of the college. The investiture dinner will take place on Oct. 21 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.

“We’re dedicated to the advancement of landscape architecture and encourage our landscape architects to be strong advocates for the profession,” said Stanziale. “Our presence at the ASLA Conference and Expo, and within the ASLA organization at large, mirrors our passion for the field and our ongoing commitment to demonstrate the power of landscape architecture throughout the community.”

With a staff that includes 65 landscape architects and civil engineers, Stewart has been actively involved in the ASLA and a number of employees have held executive committee positions within local chapters. Blackwell is currently the president of the North Carolina ASLA chapter, and is on the Government Affairs Advisory Committee and Leadership Development Committee. Landoll is the former president of the Washington ASLA chapter and has served as Chair of the Council of Chapter President. Terence Welles, landscape designer at Stewart, is currently the secretary of the North Carolina ASLA chapter.
