The Details

The 11-mile stretch of I-40 between US 15-501 in Chapel Hill and Davis Drive in Durham, near the prestigious Research Triangle Park, is a vital traffic artery carrying 90,000 vehicles per day. The highway is projected to carry 150,000 vehicles per day in the year 2022.

Stewart was selected to design the widening for this highway. Designers added an eastbound and westbound lane with a median concrete barrier separating traffic. The firm was also responsible for the widening of six bridges within the project limits.
