Catawba County Countywide Greenway Master Plan

The Carolina Thread Trail (CTT) is a vision for a network of greenways that will eventually weave through 15 counties in North and South Carolina, serving approximately 2.3 million citizens and potentially connecting more than 40 destinations. Local communities in the 15-county area will create and implement its own trails, working with neighboring communities to determine points of connection. Stewart, in partnership with Carol R. Johnson Architects (CRJA), was selected by Catawba County to complete its greenway master plan as part of the CTT.

The purpose of the master plan was to identify the conceptual routes for the CTT through Catawba and its incorporated jurisdictions; identify the broader existing and potential trail network to which the CTT will connect; develop an action plan for implementation; and produce a publicly adoptable countywide greenway master plan.

Stewart’s primary responsibilities included inventory/information collection, community outreach and ground truthing, as well as collaborating with CRJA to develop trail alternatives, design solutions, and write the master plan document and trail brochure.
