I grew up in NC and love exploring both the Mountains and the Sea, but if I am pressed I would have to pick the mountains as my favorite. There is just something about the scenery and being immersed in nature that refreshes my soul. What is your favorite project you've worked on and why?
Probably The Dillon in downtown Raleigh. It was challenging, complex, fast-paced, the first major project reviewed under the Raleigh UDO, and our new home. The project has already won awards and we have been asked to present about our experiences several times by different organizations. All around a truly enjoyable and rewarding project. What was your first job?
My job first job at 16 years old was primary caretaker for all the animals on the premise at Dan Nicholas Park in Rowan County. They had all types of animals which included Bears, Bobcats, Birds of Prey, Snakes, livestock in a petting barn and many other native NC animals. As part of this job I also had the great privilege of answering questions of the visiting public, assisting with weekly camps (4H, school groups, etc), cleaning restrooms, and directing individuals in need of community service hours on what tasks needed to be completed. I was given quite a bit of responsibility at a young age and learned a lot about dealing with all types of people and challenges.
