What was your first job?

I worked on a small tobacco farm and was a "barn hanger" (I loaded & unloaded tobacco in a barn so that it could be dried & shipped off for processing.

Who inspires you?

John Maxwell - I enjoy personal growth and leadership development. Who better to inspire in these areas than him!

What is your favorite thing about being a planner?

I enjoy solving problems and helping communities. Often our clients reach out to us with complex issues. When we are able to provide creative solutions for them, it gives me great satisfaction.

Chad Sary, AICP

Planning Manager

Chad is a Planning Manager in Stewart’s Municipal Planning & Mobility Practice.  He is a certified planner with more than 20 years of community planning, development services, transportation, zoning and general government administration experience in North Carolina. Chad is an experienced consensus builder with various government departments, federal and state agencies, the general public, the development community and elected/appointed officials. He monitors and ensures project conformance to municipal, county, and state regulations, and works with local governments regarding planning studies including comprehensive plans, small area plans, project management, land use code writing, and grant administration. 

Chad’s primary responsibilities include oversight and management of projects and business development.  He also supervises Stewart staff and subconsultants, and serves as part of the Practice Leadership Team. Chad is a Certified Planner, a Certified Zoning Official, and a Certified Floodplain Manager. He specializes in current planning and development ordinances.
