Bicycle & Pedestrian Design

Bicycle & Pedestrian – Engineer

Stewart is seeking a Bicycle & Pedestrian – Engineer for our downtown Raleigh office and/or uptown Charlotte Office. The ideal candidate has 5-10 years of experience in bicycle and pedestrian and/or roadway design. This position will be responsible for producing consistently high quality design on a wide variety of bicycle & pedestrian projects, both large- and small-scale, including the design greenways, sidewalks, and bicycle lanes. He/she will conduct field observations and data collection activities in addition to coordinate preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.  Candidate should possess a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year university.

STEWART BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN PLANNING & DESIGN PRACTICE – Stewart’s approach to bike/ped planning and design balances our technical expertise in transportation engineering with our commitment to environmental conservation, community health and aesthetic beauty. Bicycle and pedestrian facilities pose some of the same types of challenges as linear road projects but also require specific design considerations based on the end user’s perspective. To that end, Stewart strives to plan and design well-engineered, long-lived projects that meet the needs of the communities they serve. To achieve this goal, we depend on an integrated network of Stewart employees who work in sidewalk, trail, and greenway planning and design, roadway design, landscape architecture, bridge and hydraulic design, surveying, construction administration, geotechnical investigations and construction materials testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registered Professional Engineer required.
  • Microstation experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license – required.
  • Ability to walk through difficult terrain for over one mile preferred.
  • Ability to cross collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Complete work accurately and in accordance with good engineering codes and practice.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with owners, NCDOT and team members.
  • Knowledge of ADA, MUTCD, FHWA Bike/Ped Design Guidelines and NACTO a strong plus.
  • Multi-task and communicate schedule and progress on assigned tasks.
  • Be energetic, self-directed and success focused.
  • Think critically and solve problems.

Geomatics

Geomatics Field Technician I

Stewart has an immediate opening for a Geomatics Field Technician I to work in our Charlotte office. A Field Technician must be able to work in a team environment, supporting / assisting the Field Supervisor and other crew members with all aspect of the daily workload.  Furthermore, he/she will operate surveying and SUE instrumentation and equipment such as prisms, total stations, global positioning systems (GPS), data collectors, magnetic locaters and ground penetrating radar.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • NSPS Certified Survey Technician Level 1 or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check.
  • Good mathematical, basic computer and communication skills.
  • Dependable and physically able to work outdoors and on construction sites in all weather conditions.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Willing and able to work overtime as required.
  • Willing and able to travel for extended periods of time.

Geomatics Field Technician II

Stewart is seeking a Geomatics Field Technician II to work in our Charlotte office. The candidate should have 1 to 3 years experience in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) or utility locating instrumentation and equipment. The right candidate must have a understanding of underground utilities and systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Read and Interpret construction, utility and survey maps.
  • Good mathematical, basic computer and communication skills.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driving record check.
  • Pass a drug test
  • Able to lift 50lbs
  • Dependable and physically able to work outdoors and on construction sites in all weather conditions.

Land Planning & Design

CIVIL PROJECT ENGINEER II

Stewart has an immediate opening for a Civil Project Engineer II to work in our Charlotte office. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience and be able to complete analysis and design for various projects, including design of utilities, storm drainage, grading, erosion control, parking lots, and driveway/roadways. He/she will be responsible for the analysis and design of civil engineering components with minimal direct supervision of Project Manager.   This person must be proficient in preparing design drawings using AutoCAD and other civil engineering design and modeling software.   Other responsibilities include performing Construction Administration related duties such as site visits, field reports, shop drawing review, and respond to contractor RFI’s.  Lastly, this person must have strong communication and interpersonal skills, used to coordinate and effectively communicate with people in other disciplines, with clients, and with jurisdiction reviewers and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and associated design and modeling software.
  • Exercise sound judgment and possess skills to defend decisions and methodologies used to arrive at chosen solution or decision.
  • Able to perform design in accordance with accepted standard of practice and with local codes, ordinances, and regulatory requirements having jurisdiction over the project.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with other team members.

Structural Engineering

Structural Post-Tensioned Concrete Engineer

Stewart, one of the largest engineering and landscape architecture design firms based in North Carolina, is seeking a Structural Post-Tensioned Concrete Engineer to work in our Charlotte office.  The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ experience designing elevated concrete systems and concrete lateral systems and 3+ years’ experience in construction administration of elevated concrete systems.   This person will be responsible for the analysis and design of building’s structural systems focused on elevated post-tensioned concrete design and concrete lateral systems.   He/she will perform design in accordance with current Code requirements and accepted engineering standards using both manual and computer methods under the supervision of more senior engineers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited University
  • Registered Professional Engineer required.
  • AutoCAD and Revit experience is required.
  • Design experience with ADAPT Software or Ram Concept preferred.
  • Strong communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Willingness to perform work after regular business hours, on weekends and sometimes on holidays when necessary.
  • Exercise good Judgment; considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local policies, codes, and permitting requirements.
  • Proficient at advanced mathematic computations.
  • Advanced plan / blueprint reading skills.
